About the New Zealand Rally Championship
The Brian Green Property Group New Zealand Rally Championship is this country’s premier nationwide rally championship and, as such, attracts New Zealand’s best drivers to compete in numerous categories for the prestigious MotorSport New Zealand-sanctioned rally championship titles.
In 2012, there are five NZRC rounds, each with a unique character reflecting the diverse regions – from Northland to Otago – in which they are run. This year, each event is a two-day rally and championship points are awarded to competitors based on their finishing position in each day, or leg, of each rally, and for their overall position in their category. All the 2012 events use primarily gravel surface special stages.

Eligible categories of car
Competitors can enter one of five categories, or classes, according to their type of car.
- Category 1: FIA Group N 4WD and any S2000 issued with a MSNZ logbook prior to 1 Jan 12, plus those Group N cars whose homologation ahs expired up to a maximum of 4 years before the beginning of the current year.
- Category 2: FIA Group N 2WD, R1, R2 and R3 cars plus those 2WD Group N cars whose homologation has expired up to a maximum of 4 years before the beginnning of the current year.
- Category 3: Open Class 4WD cars complying with MotorSport NZ Manual Appendix Two Schedule A and subject to Article 2.2.1.
- Category 4: Open Class 2WD cars complying with MotorSport NZ Manual Appendix Two Schedule A.
- Category 5: Historic cars subject to Article 2.2.
